Club Members of Single-Hull Yachts of all types can join our Racing Events.

Each year the Club’s Racing Program is revised in accordance with the wishes of the majority of the members who race.

Races are conducted under AYF rules, PBYC Sailing Directions & Racing Policy. Click on the racing info links to the right for information regarding the Club’s Racing activities (rounding marks, starting procedures, race time limits and rules) and for the current season’s Racing Program which has details of dates, starting times and courses.

All boats that take part in any of the clubs racing programs must comply with either Safety Category 7 for all races within Pittwater of Safety Category 5 for all races beyond Pittwater but still within the confins of Broken Bay.

The Club would prefer not to have protests and believes that many situations where protests occur can be avoided if members take the trouble to get to know one another and enjoy their friendship.

Twilight Racing

Throughout the daylight savings period, Club races are held each fortnight on a Friday evening, as shown in the PBYC’s Yearly Racing Program.

The PBYC’s twilight races are conducted in two divisions. The Race Committee allocates a Club member’s yacht to the appropriate division. A handicap is also allocated and established after a few races. Handicaps are adjusted based on performance after each race to ensure that everyone has a chance of gaining a place in subsequent races.

The starting line for all Club twilight racing is set a short distance to the east of Portuguese Beach.

After each PBYC TWILIGHT RACE all participants are encouraged to come back to the Palm Beach RSL Club which provides an inexpensive bistro and enables everyone to gather for drinks and race results. Race results are published on the Club’s website.

On the alternate Fridays members are invited, in a reciprocal arrangement, to participate in the twilight races conducted by Avalon Sailing Club which starts from an area out from their club premises at 6.05 p.m.

Members who participate in Avalon Sailing Club’s twilight races are invited back to the deck of their club for a very enjoyable BYO everything barbeque after each race.
